2006 Research on Male Hair Loss
According to the 2006 research on male hair loss, alopecia arreata is one of the leading men's issues. Alopecia Arreata is the medical term used to refer to male baldness. According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) scientists are currently studying a number of contributing factors in the area of Alopecia and hair loss in general during their 2006 research on male hair loss. They are focusing on gaining a better understanding of baldness and by doing so hope to develop more effective methods of treatment.
The contributing factors are genes, hair follicle development, the immune system as well as drugs and treatments used in immune diseases and stem cells in the skin. Scientists are also hoping to generate data which will prove helpful in getting preventative drugs directly to the hair follicles and are continuing this in their 2006 research on male hair loss.
In an article published at parade.com Dr. Marc Avram, a dermatologist and clinical associate professor at Weill Medical College at Cornell Medical Center in New York City discussed the latest research developments. He announced that researchers have discovered a gene that treats baldness in their 2006 research on male hair loss. The gene operates to stimulate hair follicles. A drug developed from this gene is set to be marketed and used on a trial basis later this year.
Dr. Avram also discussed the formulation of a technique which is expected to be useful for the growing and manufacturing of healthy hair cells in the lab. This process is not unlike cloning. The hair produced by this method is expected to be successfully transplanted surgically to the patient's scalp. While research on this scientific technique is ongoing, early indications are promising.
The treatments are hopeful prospects for both male and female candidates. Scientists have always shared an interest in the treatment of baldness, primarily as a result of its social implications. As long as society remains fixated on the social difficulties associated with baldness, scientists will continue to invest time and effort in the study of the disease.
