Hair Loss And Acupuncture - Cure or Hooey?

The ancient Asian cultures usually didn't have hair loss and acupuncture is to credit in some cases. Acupuncture is an ancient procedure that is said to calm, relax, and center a person. Basically, an acupuncturist will stick several tiny needles into your skin in areas of pressure, or pressure points. The procedure is widely practiced but its benefits are just as widely debated. The debates have become even more heated since many acupuncture enthusiasts are calming it as the cure for hair loss.

Many believe that the main cause for hair loss is stress. Acupuncture believers insist that by eliminating this stress and participating in special acupuncture treatments hair will not only cease to fall out, it will also grow back. The procedure is done with a small hammer shaped device called a "plum blossom". The plum blossom consists of seven needles. It is said that when you apply light pressure to the scalp with the plum blossom blood flow increases and
the stimulation causes hair to grow.

If you choose to use this method, you will need to get treatments done one or two times a week and will be expected to do home treatments as well. The home treatments involve using a brush-like device to massage the problem areas on the scalp. Though there are many strong believers in this process their are even more naysayers. Many say that they have seen no scientific proof that acupuncture works to improve hair growth. Acupuncture enthusiasts have shot back at non-believers by attacking western medicine's more common treatments for hair loss. They say that medicines and treatments today can cause serious side effects that can damage the body permanently. There are no known side effects to acupuncture and it is said to not only be painless but pleasant.

Many of us are cynical to that which is not familiar to us. Hair loss and acupuncture may seem strange together, and it is very hard to believe with no hard evidence that it is the cure for hair loss but it may be worth a try. Since it is a harmless procedure and many do find it relaxing, it may be worth your time to try a few sessions.
